In this nativity scene, the rustic cradle reflects the humble manger of Bethlehem. Carved out of the bark of one branch of the olive tree provides a rustic and natural feel, making the viewer feel closer to the Holy Lands from which the tree was grown.

The pale background of the inner trunk provides a calming light, and the curve of the trunk invokes the homey warmth of the barn on the night of Jesus’ birth. This is contrasted pleasantly with darker wood and coarse lines of figures, praying Mary, depicted kneeling and praying her hands with a sole soft curve that imply maternal comfort, kneeling Joseph, and the shepherd with his staff, flanked by sheep and donkey on either side.

Understated and earthy, this nativity scene contains all the essential elements: the star of Bethlehem in the center, the delicately carved script of “Bethlehem” on the far right of the trunk, and righteous palm tree on the left.
